SARAH LAFLIN, cleavage, stilettos, humor, charm and all heart is the Erin Brockavich of loan modifications and accomplishes miracles on a daily basis. Following her through trials and tribulations, on a daily basis she navigates our broken banking system. Sarah saves homes and saves “The American Dream”. Sarah gives “crisis management” a new name. Sarah comes in when other people who have been paid to modify have failed. She is the real deal! She is the voice for her clients who can’t speak, aren’t being heard or helped! Her success rate is 100% and Sarah won’t take a modification she can’t do.
Sarah is a woman on a mission and has to fly directly to Wamu (Florida), Taylor Bean and Whitaker (New Jersey where the loan has been transferred by way of the FDIC due to the closing of the 12th largest loan servicer in the United States) , and National Cities (Miamisburg, Ohio) to save 4 homes from foreclosures! On a hope and a shoestring, with a buddy pass given from a loan modification client, Sarah Laflin goes on a whirlwind trip around the country. Sarah is on a mission to save 4 houses.
First stop is WAMU in Jacksonville, Florida. With no appointment set, Sarah camps out in a building the size of a city block. The goal of today’s trip is to save a house from being auctioned in 5 days. Her client had previously hired 2 loan modification people prior to Sarah and had been swindled by both. For no money, Sarah has been working on this loan modification for over 90 days with zero resolution. It turns out that all the information the banks had given her till now is wrong and had Sarah not gone to Florida, the house would have gone to auction. 6 hours later, after meeting with a department head, the house is saved and Sarah’s clients’ dream remains intact.
Second stop is Taylor, Bean and Whitaker, the 12 largest loan servicer in the United States. Sarah walks into the doors and is met the by the FDIC which is in the process of taking control of this banking entity. Sarah is told the loan has been transferred to Sparta in Ocala, Florida and is escorted out. Forty minutes later, she goes to Sparta and discovers the loan is transferred again to New Jersey. Sarah calls her client with the buddy pass to inform him that his loan is not in Florida but somewhere in New Jersey and can she get a plane ticket to New Jersey! No buddy passes are left, so out of pocket, for planes, trains and automobiles, Sarah gets herself to New Jersey! Day three after a brutal flight and cheap lodgings, Sarah drives to Newing, New Jersey where she meets with Cenlar, a servicing company that just acquired her client’s loan. She meets with a department head in the lobby and amazingly enough, another miracle occurs! Another home is saved! Another dream remains in tact. The next morning Sarah flies out at 6am, in an attempt to get to Columbus, Ohio by way of Chicago, the plane breaks down. She misses her connecting flight in Chicago and flies stand-by into Columbus, only to have another plane break down. 4 planes and 2 days later Sarah arrives in one piece safe and sound! She calls one of her clients whom she had never met and asked her to have dinner at Applebee’s for the 2 for one special. They have a delightful evening and share stories about raising their children. This client has been to 3 Wells Fargo banks with no success and is thrilled that her modification is already under review with a negotiator. This is the final step before a loan gets modified. This step is the crucial step in negotiating interest rates and loan terms which decides the remaining life of the loan.
The next day Sarah goes to Miamisburg, Ohio outside of Columbus in the middle of a treacherous rain storm and meets with National Cities to save yet another home! After that appointment Sarah is able to make the red eye home to see her family in OC who can’t function with out her! MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
SARAH is uniquely qualified to do loan modifications. Her background is title, escrow, a one-time loan officer that helped first-time homebuyers and senior citizens, as well as an appraiser. She knows how the banks think and can speak their language. She understands that the banks’ workload is excessive and employees are overworked and underpaid. With sympathy and humor, she is able to accomplish what no one else can.
With clerks and the negotiators she is always charming and pleasant even when they are cranky and overworked. Sarah persuasively corrects them and sets them on the right track again. Sarah’s mantra is “you catch more bees with honey”. This works until the banks become so overloaded that they stop returning calls and then she has no choice but to fly across the country and talk her way into the inner sanctum of home loan modification offices and get her clients’ case heard and seen in such a way that it can’t be turned down.
How does Sarah get such success, when the national average is a 91% failure? With persistence and honesty she turns people away if she can’t help, or can see they won’t qualify or they are in someway fraudulent, the people she agrees to help are those who can be helped and should be, approximately 80% of the borrowers she initially. Interviews.
Sarah is one of those people the banks and the Department of Commerce is sending out warnings on. - “Don’t trust anyone! Do the paper work yourself. You can trust the banks.” Ironically it is the banks that enticed people into loans they couldn’t afford in the first place. They are responsible for bringing down a nation with bad loans! 9% of loan modification applicants have been completed. 93% have been rejected. These people are misled by the banks and paperwork is filled out wrong. From here the loan modification is denied and homes are lost to foreclosure. The system is broken and the banks are inundated with files they cannot begin to address. The volume increases and banks are unable to handle the volume or the complexities that every case presents
Sarah got into loan modification to save her own houses. The rest is history!
